There has been a significant increase in shipping, sometimes as much as 10 days in the mail. This can result in most or all of the spikes being pupated by the time you receive them. We highly recommend purchasing ice packs to help increase the odds of them arriving without pupating. Because of the extreme circumstances right now, we cannot guarantee that they will arrive still in their larvae form.
Blue Bottle Spikes - also known as maggots - are a favorite at BigFATPhids (BFP). They can be fed to your jumping spider in their larvae stage, or pupated and hatched into flies. We have even seen some of our jumping spiders eat the pupae directly. There are three different stages of a Blue Bottle:
- Larvae (maggot or spike) is when they are still wiggling
- Pupae look like brown pellets, this indicates they are preparing for their final stage (can take up to a month to hatch)
- Blue Bottle Fly is the final adult stage
Because these are live insects, we only ship them Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday and may need to postpone shipping for a natural disaster or another reason. We will let you know if this happens. We do not ship live insects internationally.
We do our best to send out non-pupated spikes, but there are many factors that impact their development and some may pupate before you receive them. To help increase the odds of unpupated spikes, we highly encourage adding another ice pack to your order.

Spider food is sold by weight and the count can vary due to size variations among them. All counts are approximate. We do not guarantee count on live food. We regularly adjust the weight of live food based on seasonal variations and try our best to get an accurate approximate count.
